POWER Baseball’s Internship Program (and now the Chill's)
The Power’s internship program offers opportunities for a variety of majors. Because the organization is small and growing, interns are heavily relied upon and have the opportunity to experience several different aspects of a sports organization.

Palm Springs Power Baseball established their first intern program for the summer season of 2005. Since this time the program has grown in the amount of interns taken in and opportunities available to them. The Power’s interns have come from the local area as well as universities across the country. The organization takes great pride in the accomplishments of past interns. Former Power interns have attended school at University of Nebraska, University of Redlands, Michigan State, Cal State San Bernardino, University of Michigan, University of San Francisco’s Sports Management Graduate program, Pitzer College, College of the Desert, and Wheaton College among many others.

The arrival of the Chill marks an exciting time for the internship program. While the Chill will be a focus during February, preparations for the Power season will continue. This adds an element of excitment to the organization while providing interns with increased learning opportunities and a more valuable experience.

Internship opportunities available:

  • Marketing Interns
  • Media Intern

Marketing Interships
The marketing internship can take a few different forms depending on the time of year and the specific skills of the individual. Interns are asked to commit to approximately 20 hours per week and to be present at every game night. Interns starting in the fall, winter, or spring will split their time between the office and promotional events in the community.

Marketing

  • Assist in creating and reviewing marketing material
  • Assist in scheduling events for management & player appearances
  • Assist with the internship program, including making fliers, recruitment, etc.
  • Put together donations for requesting organizations
  • Write and submit press releases
  • Book elementary school and community appearances for Rocky the Ram
  • Supervise Rocky the Ram
  • Add creative ideas on game night promotions and events
  • Assist the Director of Marketing and President as needed

Special Events

  • Assist in planning, coordinating and implementing exposition set-up and presentations
  • Attend special events, including the weekend and after normal business hours
  • Assist in Village Fest

Interns present for the February season will experience a game night internship for the first four weekends in February. Duties are expected to be similar to the summer internship experience. This will be the first year of winter baseball for the Power so there will obviously be some details to be worked out during this exciting time.

Marketing interns in the summer experience a game night internship more than an office style internship. Marketing interns are responsible for setting up and running game night promotions and activities on a nightly basis. Attendance at all home games is required.

Media Intern
The Media Relations Intern is responsible for: writing press releases, creating and organizing the team roster, updating the website, contacting local media with post game reports, writing post game articles immediately following the game, operating gameTracker webcasts during games, and keeping track of and updating team statistics. This is generally done under the supervision of the General Manager.

Media intern may also assist the marketing team during the pre-season by attending special events to help promote the team and assist with other marketing duties.
