As a Parent, Should You Always Welcome Your Adult Child Back Home?
Thanks to the recession, plenty of people are having a hard time getting by. Letting your child move back home may be a decision you have to make. You and your partner will need to think about this carefully before you decide.
One of the first things that you need to think about is the reason why your child can't make it by themselves. If it's something out of their control such as getting laid off or getting divorced, then it would certainly be best to let him stay. If your child simply refuses to work however, teaching them a lesson may be a good idea.
You'll also need to consider whether your child has other options. If they have the finances to get their own place, then you may want to let them. They may also want to consider moving in with a friend or getting a roommate.
Obviously, you'll also need to think about whether you have enough space to accommodate another adult in the home. Sleeping on the couch may be the only option if you don't have a room available.
Before you decide to let your child move back in, you need to reach an agreement on the length of time they'll stay. You don't want them to move back in and stay for years. Time may fly by and they will have been staying there for a few years in no time.
Contributing to the household financially may not be possible if your child isn't working. Once they move in, you'll have another mouth to feed. You and your spouse need to think about whether you can afford the extra costs.
Coming up with a few house rules is a good idea if you do decide to let your child come back. Another good idea is to start charging your child rent. If your child can't help out financially, make sure that they do a few chores around the home.
Letting their child move back in is a huge decision for most parents. You may not have any other choice if your child has nowhere else to go. Everyone in the household will need to agree to live by a certain set of rules to ensure that everyone is happy. Doc No. 34Sdlhgsdl -sds
